COVER LETTERSThe purpose of a cover letter is to highlight your qualifications for a specific job and to secure an interview. Cover letters are often your first impression to a prospective employer. Each cover letter should be custom tailored to the company and it helps to do some research on the company, so that you can address the letter to a specific key individual. No form letters!
They should be no more than a single page in length and contain between three to five paragraphs. You should include examples of your skills, abilities and achievements that are transferable to the job you are applying for. Let your enthusiasm and confidence come across in your cover letter. If you don't have much experience, don't draw attention to it but instead emphasize relevant skills that you have acquired in other ways. Include your contact information on the cover letter, and end it with an invitation for the employer to contact you for an interview. Cover letters need to be perfect, so...Yes, proofreading is a MUST!!! Why? Maybe this will help. |
