Three Types of Resume Formats
1. Chronological
Over 80% of resumes are chronologically oriented. They are arranged by date with the most recent employer first, proceeding backwards in time. Following each date is the JOB TITLE and EMPLOYERS NAME. The most recent position occupies the most space and experiences are listed in chronological order. |
2. Functional
A functional resume lists experiences by functions performed or transferable skills headings. It omits the employer's name and dates worked. It works well with JOB TITLES that differ from one field to another |
3. Combination
A combination resume features elements of BOTH chronological and functional resumes. It is oriented by function or transferable skills headings, and includes EMPLOYERS NAME, JOB TITLE, DATE OF EMPLOYMENT and EDUCATION. It is longer and more difficult to compose than the alternatives but presents a fuller picture. |
